Learning, Learning and more Learning!

Year 10 students were given the opportunity to find out about degree courses that the University of Liverpool have to offer. Students attended 6 workshops on Wednesday 22nd June 2016, throughout the day. Here is a brief description of the workshops attended:

  • Local History: Using resources related to crime and punishment from National Archive records, students had to identify what crimes were given to different Victorian criminals. It was interesting to find out that for stealing an umbrella, a lady was sentenced to 6 years in prison.
  • Archaeology, Classics & Egyptology: Students intently listened whilst an Archaeology PhD student told them all about Democracy in Ancient Greece. Two students had to put forward arguments as to whether Athens should invade Sparta the rest of the group voted, based on the arguments put forward. Year 10 decided that they wouldn’t invade!
  • Modern Languages: A workshop focusing on Socio-linguistics and the languages spoken in Spain.
  • Irish Studies: An interesting workshop about the use of murals as a means of expression.
  • World History: A workshop focused on ‘The experience of slavery in the United States’.
  • Ancient Rome: An opportunity for students to discover life as a Roman Soldier.

Students evaluation of the day was extremely positive, they were a credit to the school.
