College’s “Field of Poppies”
As an act of remembrance Archbishop Beck Catholic College is honouring the memory of all the brave men and women who fell during the First World War and also in the many conflicts that have followed. The art department have been busy creating this year’s Remembrance display. Thank you to all staff and students who contributed plastic bottles, they have now been transformed into over 200 poppies to commemorate our war dead.
This has created a ‘Flanders Field’ of poppies beside the entrance to the College.
On 11th November 1918, the Armistice was signed and the Great War was over. Close to a million British and Commonwealth troops had made the ultimate sacrifice, many of them dying on the fields in Flanders.
