An Interview with Elspeth
What Primary school did you attend?
I attended Holy Name Catholic Primary School in Fazakerley.
How did you feel when you received the news that you were to be the new Head Girl?
Being chosen to represent the college in the role of Head Girl was a complete surprise yet a huge honour as it acknowledged many years of hard work, both academically and through extracurricular activities such as music.
What qualities do you think you bring to the role?
I am a dedicated and motivated student with a strong desire to achieve in everything I do. I believe myself to be approachable, friendly and work well with others.
In your opinion, why is it important to have both a Head Boy and Head Girl?
I feel it is important to have a Head Boy and Head Girl as it allows for representatives of the school to be established in terms of greeting visitors, or attending events outside the college. Recently, I have had the opportunity to greet local MP’s, speak at the college awards evening and lay a poppy wreath at the Remembrance Ceremony held in the City Centre.
What have you enjoy about your time in the College?
The highlight of my time at the college has most definitely been my time spent as part of the music department. From the age of 9, I was part of the colleges training band, then transferring over to the senior band at the age of 11. My experiences have involved performing in some of the most iconic buildings in Liverpool, such as both cathedrals, St Georges Hall, and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, as well as competing in both solo and group competitions across the North West. This, combined with a music tour of Spain, playing in the streets and churches of Barcelona, has only added to my confidence and made my time at the college even more enjoyable.
What are you studying at A-Level?
I am studying Geography, English Literature and Business.
After your 6th Form studies what do you want to do and where do you want to study?
I am planning to study Geography at university as it is something I am incredibly passionate about. The concept of environmental issues affecting the way in which we live our lives, and vice versa, fascinates me and a career focusing on topics such as the sustainable development of our society is something I feel strongly about.
What do you see as some of the major strengths of Archbishop Beck?
I believe one of the main strengths of the college is the Music Department. It is rare you would get a college so supportive and encouraging of music, both through graded examinations and boosting the confidence of an individual. Throughout my 6 years at the college, I have always felt happy and supported, which I believe has helped contribute to many of my achievements over recent years.
