Remembrance Sunday

More than 1000 people turned out to commemorate Remembrance Sunday at the Liverpool Cenotaph on Sunday 8th November 2009

Schoolchildren, Veterans, Enlisted Personnel, Service groups and the Community flooded the area around St Georges Hall for the Annual Remembrance Sunday Service

Many separate groups, ranging from sporting bodies to schools to Community Groups to the Armed Forces Units laid wreaths at the Cenotaph

This year’s Service was special to Stewart Allan a student of Archbishop Beck who was laying a wreath on behalf of the College Community; He was able to stand proud with his dad a past member of the Armed forces.

Stewart was a member of a large group of young people on Sunday and he believes we, the succeeding generations, have the eternal obligation to remember the men and women who have served in war and especially the many young soldiers who have died in vey recent conflicts.

Mrs Monahan a teacher from the College said that such an event allows our community a chance to reflect on the challenges facing our Armed Forces and the role they play in preserving our environment where we try to live and help other nations live peacefully, Our efforts might not seem much, but it is valuable to reflect on the practical issues that confront us daily, The attendance of our young people at such a special ceremony shows how the wartime efforts of British Soldiers is kept alive in the hearts and minds of this generation.

Our picture shows Stewart, his parents and Helen from the 6th Form at Archbishop Beck Catholic Sports College who were wreath layers this year.
