Generosity and Compassion
“If there is one lesson that becomes clear when we look at the story of Jesus and of the countless saints and not to mention men and women today whose desires lead them to lives of great generosity it is that a life mission begins with a a desire to love authentically and truly. This mission always blossom in beauty regardless of how great or small its fruits. At first it may be about learning small ways to practice generosity and compassion.” Tim Muldoon
It was with this in mind that the final group of Year 9 RE students went to the Missionaries of Charity, Seel Street, soup kitchen, to help prepare and serve those most in need.
The Missionaries of Charity
The Missionaries of Charity in Liverpool offer hospitality to the homeless community. Volunteers assist the work of the Missionaries of Charity in giving out food. After the clients finish their food they often have another cup of tea and a cake and then start to disperse. The volunteers then wash up the dishes, sweep and mop the floor and clean the tables. Some volunteers go around the dining-room and pour out tea for people.
Speaking on his return to the college Year 9 student, Gerald said, “Whilst it can be quite daunting going into the Missionaries of Charity ‘soup-kitchen’ at first, you become more confident and I look forward to returning again in the future.
