“ARK” Exhibition

“Art has to change things, and if it was immediately acceptable it would not be doing the job.” Sir Antony Gormley

Year 10 Art students attend the prestigious “ARK” exhibition at Chester Cathedral.

ARK is a world class modern and contemporary sculpture exhibition at Chester Cathedral, ARK is the largest sculpture exhibition to be held in the north west of England and features 90, three dimensional works by over 50 internationally renowned sculptors including Damien Hirst, Sir Antony Gormley, Lynn Chadwick, Barbara Hepworth, Sarah Lucas, David Mach, Kenneth Armitage and Peter Randall-Page, amongst others.

This exhibition uses the magnificent interior of the cathedral as a backdrop to extraordinary works of art as well as the beautiful and ancient spaces surrounding it. Several sculptors are showing brand new works of art whilst some pieces have emerged for public view from private collections. It is the first time these pieces have been seen together.

The exhibition showcased over 90 sculptures, students from the college had time to photograph the sculptures throughout the settings and time to reflect on their meaning. All provided in the peaceful, spiritual and historic surroundings of Chester Cathedral.

Headteacher of the College, Mr Paul Dickinson said, ”the ARK exhibition was a truly unique experience for our young students and we encourage, support the cultural development of our young people. Special thanks to members of the Art department who organised the visit making this a truly remarkable day.”
