5 Minute Q & A with Emma & Mr Hicks
“Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.” John F. Kennedy
As the academic year draws to a close in a few weeks time and now that A Level examinations are over we had the chance to catch up with out-going Head Girl, Emma.
What Primary school did you attend?
I attended Holy Name Catholic Primary School in Fazakerley.
How have you felt about your year as the senior student Ambassadors of the college?
When I was asked to be Head Girl, I was thrilled to be offered the position. Being ambassadors for the college community, both internally and externally, was a role that was filled with responsibility. I was honoured as my years of hard work and dedication were acknowledged in being offered the position as Head Girl. I have thoroughly enjoyed my year as Head Girl, as it has allowed me to be an approachable advocate for other students across the College.
What were the qualities you feel you bought to the position?
As Head Girl, I am a confident and assured individual, who thrives in the College Community. I am somebody who has always been heavily involved in the extra-curricular activities provided at Archbishop Beck – I am a member of the Concert Band and Chamber Choir, whilst also taking part in the Sixth Form’s Dance Academy. I have been involved in 3 school productions, and just recently gained my Diploma in Music Theatre, the equivalent to a first year module in University. Being aware of many parts of the college, not just the academics, have allowed me to interact with people who I would not normally cross paths with. This has meant that I have been able to gain a true insight of life within the Archbishop Beck community, and be an accurate representative of a model student for the college.
Is it important for the college to have a Head Boy and Head Girl?
I do believe it is important for the college to have a Head Boy and Head Girl, as we are able to represent the college at events outside of school time. We are often invited to events, such as the Annual Service of Remembrance at St. George’s Hall in November, and it is vital to display our involvement in the wider community. Also, within Archbishop Beck, Head Boy and Head Girl act as appropriate role models for other students.
What have you enjoyed about your time as Head Boy and Head Girl?
During my time as Head Girl, I have enjoyed being an Ambassador for Archbishop Beck. At competitions with the Concert Band and Chamber Choir, such as the Wirral Festival, it is always lovely to be acknowledged in my position. Being Head Girl has allowed me to access opportunities that would not normally be available to me, such as the Annual Civic Mass at the Metropolitan Cathedral.
What have you studied at A Level?
At A-Level, I have studied Psychology, English Literature and Dance.
What are you future ambitions?
I hope to attend University in the coming academic year. I currently have a conditional offer from University of Cambridge to read Psychological and Behavioural Sciences, with a specialisation in Forensic Psychology in my final year. Career-wise, I hope to eventually work as a Forensic Psychologist within the Criminal Justice System.
What do you see as some of the major strengths of the College?
I feel as though one of the College’s major strengths is the extra-curricular activities. During my 7 years here, my passion for Performing Arts has been supported and encouraged, both through examinations and performance opportunities. This year, I was given the opportunity to travel to Ypres, Belgium with the Concert Band to commemorate the Centenary of the Armistice. A focus on extra-curricular activities allows all students of the College to excel, which has contributed to my many achievements during my time here at Archbishop Beck.
We thank Emma and Lewis for being outstanding student Ambassadors for the college during the year and wish them and all of our departing senior students every success in the future.
