5 Minute Q & A with Michael Fitzpatrick & Mr Hicks

What does a typical day look like for you?

I don’t really have a ‘typical’ day, my days vary depending on what shift I’m working. On the one hand this is great because no day feels the same and this keeps things pretty fresh and interesting. But on the other hand, my job occasionally requires me to work unsociable hours like evenings and weekends so it can sometimes be a bit difficult to organise things around work.

I like the days when I’m able to get up early and go to the gym before work, I think this puts you in a good mood for the rest of the day.

I’m a digital journalist; so in short, I spend my days helping to produce radio programmes, creating content to be featured on the BBC website, app, and social media pages.

When you were younger what did you want to be?

I remember when I was really young saying I wanted to be an author. I know that’s a bit vague and I’m not entirely sure why, but I guess I just liked storytelling which would explain the reason for going into journalism.

What is the latest book you are reading?

I’m currently reading ‘Conversations with McCartney’ which is a Paul McCartney biography. I know it’s not very original for someone from Liverpool to say, but I’ve always been fascinated by The Beatles. McCartney is one of the few people I’d like to meet. I’m enjoying the book because the author is from Liverpool so he’s asking a lot of the same questions I’d like to ask.

What is your all-time favourite movie?

Ocean’s Eleven. I like how clever all of the characters are, plus I enjoy seeing the criminals win for once. Is that weird?

What advice would you give your teenage self?

Do more with your time outside school, learn more musical instruments, learn a language, be involved with as many teams as you can etc. These things will come in handy later on.
